Washington Outdoor Women is an awesome group of ladies who teach women skills and fill them with confidence to help them in the great outdoors. While in Seattle, I spent time with Kristie, a logistics coordinator with Wow. We set up a campsite together and Kristie was so at home in nature. That’s such an admirable quality.  From going fishing, to cooking a meal for us, to finding her way around with a compass, to chopping her own fire wood— nothing was daunting to her. Gotta love those Carhartt girls who live to be outside, exploring and enjoying all that nature has to offer.

It’s the holiday season and time to fill your home with festive cheer. Handmade decorations feel so much more merry and warm (and free!). Today I went on a scavenger hunt for sticks to turn into a winter wonderland. Check out the photos to see how to turn a pile of branches into snowflakes. I felt especially festive and toasty in my Carhartt Alpine Jacket.

I’m back at home in Texas for Thanksgiving. It’s comforting to walk into your house during the holidays. My mom always flavored our apple cider with red hots when I was growing up, so to smell those scents again, I’m filled with nostalgia. Follow the steps above to see how you can make some Texan apple cider for yourself and flood your home with delightful holiday smells.

I broke in my new Wellington Vest today as well. It’s perfect for relaxing and sippin’ on a warm cup of cider. I love adding in hidden hints of patterns into my wardrobe. The lining on the Wellington Vest is a great fall plaid mixed with the diamond quilted pattern on the exterior. Grab one for yourself and see how how perfect it is for layering and bundling up this season.

Eating organic foods and shopping locally is good for body and soul. Red Oak Farm in Stuyvesant, NY is a certified organic farm, not too far from Albany. Courtney, her husband, and another couple work together running the farm. It’s so great to see families partner up to take care of land and produce. Courtney has always dreamed of owning her own bit of earth and farming. I can see why. We took a leisurely walk down the lane to some of their back property. It’s the kind of land you dream about.

Read more about Red Oak Farm here. They sell their goods at local farmer’s markets and offer different teas and herbs.

The photos above were taken on a little river I discovered in my wanderings around Albany, New York. It was so relaxing to sit on the bank of the riverbed and listen to the water swirl by, soaking up as much fall as possible. I love taking hints from my surroundings and adding them into my outfits. This secluded section of peacefulness was filled with inspiration. That’s when I came up with the idea of a scarf made of leaves. It’s not too hard to do, all you need is some spare fabric and thread. The Carhartt Women’s Artisan Jacket has been one of my favorites this season, and it goes perfectly with my new scarf.

Check out these hilarious videos of some of the new Carhartt products. The Artisan Jacket is featured in the women’s outerwear video.

I must admit that I got very lost on my way out to Peaceful Acres in Albany last week. It was scenic, so I didn’t mind too much. Every turn darted around one gorgeous hillside to another. Nanci and Stacy, the mother-daughter duo that run the farm, took me up to the highest point on the grounds to feed the horses. When we reached the peak, I felt as though someone knocked the wind out of me. We were completely surrounded in the most beautiful countryside, entirely colored by fall and sprinkled with horses. I don’t mean to be trite, but Peaceful Acres is appropriately named.

Nanci started the non-profit organization as a sanctuary for horses and people. The horses are rescued from abandonment, neglect, and abuse, then rehabilitated emotionally and physically. Once healed, the horses in turn help out people who have faced their own adversities in life. A large portion of the programs focus on women recovering from breast cancer and other emotional and physical hurdles such as domestic abuse, anxiety disorders, and depression.

I was so moved, not just by the scenery, but by the effort and love Nanci and Stacy pour into Peaceful Acres. Their lives are devoted to helping people and horses alike. It was empowering to see these awesome women make the most of what life has dealt them and use what they learned to help others find their own path to peace.

I’m back in my old stomping ground this week. Nothing compares to the expanse of Texas skies. I spent some time on a ranch, and of course I had to dress the part. It was a bit chilly out, so I wore Carhartt’s country girl plaid shirt and the midweight hooded sweatshirt. The details are what really make these two items for me. I love the ruffle on the plaid shirt and the stitching on the sweatshirt. Both play off one another nicely and lend some added interest to the eye.

Carhartt Modern Fit Jean

We all love to express ourselves—especially when it comes to clothing. How great is it to find an outfit that is an extension of yourself or of what you do? A great shirt can make you feel even more like the colorful person that you are. The right pair of jeans helps you feel comfortable and still put together.

The other day, I felt like expressing my quirkiness a little more than usual. I grabbed my favorite pair of Carhartt jeans (the modern fit with a dark wash), and I stitched a quick design on the back pockets. It was really fun wearing them around. They are great fit and totally me.
