DIY: Orb Ornaments

Repurposed materials give an ordinary craft a bit of depth. My favorite place to think outside of the box is at the hardware store. It’s always a fun challenge to grab an item and try to come up with a project utilizing the original purpose it fulfills in a whole new way.

Hose Clamps have a great industrial look to them. Add in their expanding and contracting nature and you have a very useful item in the DIY world. Fit 4 hose clamps together and the result is a very strong, structural sculpture. Around this time of year, they make for great ornaments. You could even add a little ribbon and hang them on the tree.

What’s really great about this craft is that it easily translates into home décor at all times of the year. Let’s face it; we’ve all been guilty of leaving up Christmas decorations far after the holiday has passed. What’s not to love about a repurposed craft made of repurposed material?

DIY Using Nature in Holiday Decorations

For last minute decorations this holiday season, just step outside and integrate aspects of nature into your trimming. This is a great activity to do with kids. It will get the wheels turing in their heads and keep them active. What do you have lying around the house that can add to the festivities? Maybe some ornaments, ribbon for wrapping gifts, and pine cones collected from the backyard can do the trick. Use thin string or wire to tie your found objects onto the wreath. Check out Ellen and Elle’s creation.
